Abhinayam Presents

An extraordinary theatrical evening dedicated to the late playwright Manoj Mitra (1938–2024), inspired by his two plays that reexamine India's great epics. Through "Ja Nei Bharate"—which explores ambition and dissent within the Kuru court before Kurukshetra—and "Bhelay Bhase Sita"—which reimagines Sita with a voice that answers back rather than accepting the ever-forbearing figure of popular memory—the evening offers a profound shared reckoning. Together, these plays examine how power and empire-building have turned women into instruments of dynasty and war, using myth as living material for thought rather than fixed doctrine.
